Resume of B. J. "Jeanie" Thompson

B.J. Thompson is a Texas attorney with 14 years experience. She was licensed by the State Bar of Texas in 1982, admitted to the United States Federal Courts for the Northern District of Texas in 1983, and admitted to the College of the State Bar of Texas in 1994.

She member of the State Bar of Texas Sections for General Practice, Consumer Law, Computer Technology and Alternate Dispute Resolution.

She received her B.A. in English and Communications from Southwest Texas State University in 1977 and her Doctor of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech University in 1982.

Through her employment opportunities with the Cities of Wichita Falls and Cleburne, Texas, she has developed expertise in economic development, risk management, worker’s compensation, real property, employment law, land use planning, recodification, administration and regulatory affairs/compliance and utility franchising. She has managed entire legal functions for all municipal operating departments including public works, zoning, finance, police, fire, utility billing and collections, municipal court, contract administration civil service, personnel, parks and recreation, environmental compliance, code enforcement, economic development and franchise negotiation and administration. She is an experienced criminal and civil litigator.

In 1996, B.J. Thompson relocated to Dallas, Texas and entered private practice. She is currently accepting clients in the areas of Municipal, Family, Small Business, and Computer law. She also offers a personal transaction document service for small or routine matters.

B.J. Thompson has also attended the annual and semi-annual conferences of the Texas City Attorney Association since 1985, as well as the annual conferences of the International Municipal Lawyer’s Association (formerly Nimlo) from 1990 to 1995. These conferences provide intensive training in the area of Municipal Law.

B.J. Thompson recently authored a paper entitled, “E-mail: Even If You Don’t Have It Yet, You Need Two Policies for It - Sample Personnel and Record Retention Policies Addressing Emerging Legal Issues” which was presented to the Texas City Attorney’s Association at its meeting in November, 1996, and to the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) mid-year conference in April 1997 in Washington, D.C.
